About Nico

Nico Gutierrez was born in Poughkeepsie N.Y. to Barbara Dale Gutierrez and Wayne Gutierrez. Nico was raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn N.Y. and The Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. His father Wayne (a professional show drummer) inspired, influenced and taught Nico at the ripe age of 10 years old, how to play the drums and entered him into the elementary school band to learn music theory.

Nico continued on playing in the elementary band, junior high band and the Fallsburg highschool orchestra band and chorus. Joining the navy out of high school, Nico also played snare drum in the Navy bootcamp band in San Diego California. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Nico continued to play drumset around in local rock bands.

Nico's natural pace and determination to keep developing his musical skills shows through his diverse drumming and musical style. Nico is constantly challenging himself and extending diversity to his style. He continues to study the modern drumset, and has immersed himself into Afro-Cuban percussion as well as Brazilian percussion for the past 7 years. Nico is currently studying the Steel Drum.

Nico has studied drum set with Wayne Gutierrez, Mark Lamson, Patrick J Burke, and Bill Ray. He has studied Afro-Cuban percussion with Mark Lamson, Michael Spiro, Regino Jimenez, Gary Greenberg, Juan Carlos Blanco, and. He is currently studying the Lead Steel Drum and music theory with Patrick J. Burke and Tom Gates

Nico has been a member of and shared the stage with:
Sol E Mar (Escola De Samba), Island Fever, Quino of Big Mountain, Los Travellers, Bruce Cameron and the Latin Jazz All-Stars, Glen Fisher Con Alma, The Gomango Invasion Orchestra, Lee Brown, Javid (Nuevo Flamenco), Gatos Papacitos, The Boogiemen, Joe Rathburn's Island, Hat Trick, We Kinda Music, The Adrian Nimms Band, Juan Carlos Blanco Afro-Cuban Dance Class.

Nico currently plays in the greater San Diego, Los Angeles, California area:

• Steel Drum for his own "Caribbean Steel" (Steel Drum Music)
• Drumset for "The Boogiemen"
• Drumset for "The Jorge Camberos Band" Latin Jazz
• Drumset for "Joe Rathburn's Island" (Caribbean/Jimmy Buffet)
• Congas for "Canela Pura" (Salsa,Merengue,Cumbia)

Nico currently runs his own Production Company, Recording Studio and Record Label.
Nico is also available for private instruction for Drumset,
Afro-Cuban percussion and the Pro-Tools Recording System.
